Description

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will be responsible for scientific exchange with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), education of health care providers and other key stakeholders on Spark gene therapy products, disease states of interest and programs, genotyping initiatives, and clinical research support. The MSL functions as a regional medical and scientific resource who supports the changing needs of healthcare professionals with available Spark resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develops strong scientific/technical expertise, advanced understanding of clinical knowledge about Spark products, disease state(s) management and therapeutic area programs in development.
  • Maintains successful certification/ field evaluation in assigned disease state(s).
  • Creates and maintains scientific partnerships with health care professionals, key medical, pharmacy, and healthcare professional organizations which includes response to medical requests, dissemination of verbal or enduring MAT approved educational resources in response to medical needs and inquiry, and coordination of US Medical Affairs research collaborations.
  • Creates and maintains KOL engagement plan for assigned territory.
  • Records KOL engagement details including demographic information, medial inquiries, MAT approved resource(s) use, and required compliance documents.
  • Captures and summarizes meaningful insights from field interactions.
  • Participate in Spark scientific education programs through content review, speaker training, event coordination, and presentation.
  • Supports congress activities in planning, session summary, MSL led engagements, and coordination of cross functional activities.
  • Understands industry regulations, medical and business strategy to develop territory plans that support goals.
  • Adheres to regulatory and compliance guidelines and company policies in all aspects of scientific dissemination of information to include responses to unsolicited requests for medical information.
  • Represents Spark in a professional, ethical, compassionate, and scientifically credible manner at all times.
  • Addresses administrative and reporting needs in timely and organized fashion.
  • Contributes to field medical team responsibilities/projects as assigned.
  • Works collaboratively and compliantly with the commercial field teams, clinical teams, and compliance/legal.
  • Interacts with appropriate professional organizations to best support gene therapy awareness and educational initiatives in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders upon request.
  • Consistently and appropriately partners with Spark field and home office colleagues regarding shared stakeholders, learnings and insights in a manner that is fully adherent with all Field Interactions Policies and SOPs.
  • Supports initiatives for the MSL form the integrated medical strategic and tactical plans requiring coordination with Medical Communications, Publications, Real World Evidence, Clinical Development, and Home Office Medical Affairs for assigned area.
  • Supports field medical representation at relevant internal meetings to share external field insights, KOL perspectives and correlating business recommendations as requested.
  • Supports Medical Affairs proactive/reactive content review in collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Participates in medical affairs and broader organization meetings.

Education and Experience Requirements

  •  PharmD, PhD, NP, or MD/DO in a scientific discipline with 0-2 years related industry experience or a BS/MS with 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Specific experience in gene therapy or knowledge of hematology, particularly hemophilia, desired.
  • Travel 60% or greater, including domestic and international travel as needed.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Understanding and ability to implement field medical tactics/activities which include, but not limited to: Disease state, current therapies, gene therapy, and basic health outcome parameters.
  • Ability to operate autonomously within region and manage moderate to heavy administrative duties including travel and calendar management, independently arranging frequent meetings with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and translate data and complex scientific concepts into clinically relevant communications.
  • Understanding of highly regulated pharmaceuticals environment.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships with medical community in one or more disease states.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills required.
