Description

LSUHSC-New Orleans, School of Medicine, Department of Medicine is seeking an experienced physician leader with strong credentials in clinical medicine and clinical, translational, or health services research for the position of Division Chief of Hematology and Medical Oncology.

The successful candidate must have experience building cancer programs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, research and clinical missions, and will play a significant role in defining opportunities directed toward NIH-designated priority areas. The candidate will partner with the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center, an emerging cancer center actively seeking NCI designation.

Requirements for the position include accomplished clinical, leadership, and management skills to build and expand the oncology/hematology division, including the research and educational activities of the section.

The candidate will be accountable for the division’s clinical operations and productivity, program development specific to medical oncology, managing the oversight of cancer research activities, community engagement, recruitment, strategic growth planning, and financial oversight. In addition, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to define the future culture of the division, leveraging the talents of a diverse group of faculty, staff, fellows, and students as the medical school and health system enter a period of growth and NCI-Designation readiness.

Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level in the LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine. The ideal candidate is expected to be a highly respected physician scientist, possess dynamic leadership skills and administrative expertise, and lead in a manner that supports and contributes to the success of the department, Cancer Center, hospital and its affiliates, and the medical school. In addition, the Division Chief will have a proven track record of progressive leadership experience within a matrixed institution.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • MD or equivalent.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Board Certified in Medical Oncology/Hematology; Licensed to practice in Louisiana prior to hire

Experience 

  • 10 years of experience in practice as a medical oncologist or hematologist; Experience in building cancer programs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, developing clinical and research missions. Previous administrative experience is required.
