Description
The laboratory of Dr. Lucia Carvelli at the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute (http://www.ibrain.fau.edu/lucia-carvelli.php) of the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is seeking outstanding applicants to pursue postdoctoral training in neuroscience on long-lasting mechanisms activated by drugs of abuse. The current focus of the lab involves the study of the actions of psychostimulants such as amphetamine and cocaine during embryogenesis, and its ability to sensitize adult animals and later generations to the actions of the drug. Methods used range from genetic/epigenetics and molecular biology to electrophysiology of cultured neurons and quantitative nematode behavioral analysis. Candidates who have experience in molecular biology, pharmacology, epigenetics or C. elegans are encouraged to apply.
The Brain Institute is a multi-million dollar investment in neuroscience research and education, inaugurated in 2016 and currently supports the research of more than 70 faculty level investigators across the six campuses of FAU, with investigations spanning the full continuum of brain science from molecules to mind, including research on the nervous systems of model systems and humans. The Carvelli lab is located on the FAU Jupiter campus, home to the FAU Brain Institute (http://ibrain.fau.edu), the Wilkes Honors College, the Scripps Research Institute and the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. Together, these units provide a world-class, interactive research environment with shared research core facilities, lecture series and educational programs. Jupiter Florida lies ten minutes from unspoiled beaches and nature parks, pleasure boating, paddle boarding, sport fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving, with entertainment/dining found in close proximity and along the nearby intracoastal waterway and within minutes in the city of Palm Beach.
Salary provided for the selected applicant will be at or above published guidelines of the National Institutes of Health, with travel funds available to attend national and international meetings. The FAU Office of Postdoctoral Affairs provides excellent resources for professional networking, career development, mentoring and teaching, and fellowship applications. Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and C.V. to Dr. Carvelli via email ([email protected]).
