Description

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks an enterprising and organized Director of Medical Standards Development and Dissemination. This job reports to the Senior Director, Medical Standards in the Quality Care and Health Equity (QCHE) Department in the Health Care Division of PPFA.

Full-time structure of this position may be negotiable*
Purpose 
  • The Director of Medical Standards Production and Dissemination will be responsible for the design and execution of efficient and innovative processes to develop, update and disseminate the PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs) for affiliate use.

Delivery

  • Leads to the development, production, and dissemination of the PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines (MS&Gs).
  • Designs and manages the processes needed to produce and disseminate routine and interim updates to the M&Gs, with support from Project Specialist, Medical Services
  • Maintains and applies up-to-date knowledge of research and trends in guideline structure and technologies to ensure PPFA MS&Gs promote equity and are responsive to affiliate and patient needs.
  • Evaluates developments in medical care, medical research, and guidelines from relevant professional organizations to identify needed updates and improvements to the PPFA MS&Gs.
  • Works with QCHE administrative team to develop and oversee contracts needed for MS&G production and dissemination.
  • Evaluates request for sharing/citing MS&Gs, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Medical Standards.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Director, Medical Standards and in collaboration with the Project Specialist, Medical Services, oversees the work of the National Medical Committee (NMC).
  • Leads the planning and implementation of all NMC business, including annual and ad hoc meetings.
  • Leads the NMC membership process, to include identifying needed expertise and coordinating nominations and selection of new members.
  • Leads periodic evaluation of and modifications to liaison organizations to the NMC.
  • In collaboration with members of the Medical Services team,
  • Contributes to MS&Gs content production and development of implementation resources
  • Provides MS&Gs technical assistance to affiliates, including addressing clinical questions and evaluating requests for waivers
  • Identifies and presents issues for discussion at MLAP
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external and internal stakeholders to promote and expand Planned Parenthood clinical guidelines and services.
  • Represents PPFA regarding sexual and reproductive health standards to external stakeholders, such as CDC.
  • Identifies opportunities to advance Medical Services’ strategic objectives through collaboration with external stakeholders
  • Under the direction of the Senior Director, Medical Standards, serves as a clinical subject matter expert and resource to affiliates, other departments and divisions within PPFA, and partner organizations
  • Provides input and guidance to a wide range of PPFA staff and external partners about issues related to clinical care generally and MS&Gs specifically
  • Serves as a spokesperson for PPFA on clinical issues in a variety of venues reaching a range of audiences as needed
  • Supervises staff, as needed
  • Completes other duties, as assigned.

Engagement

  • Regularly interacts with a staff of all levels in other departments and divisions, and at affiliates, as well as a wide variety of professionals and professional organizations external to Planned Parenthood, including:
  • National Office staff from other departments and divisions; will work most closely with staff from the following departments: Accreditation & Evaluation, CAPS, Communications, Education and Training, Experience, Health Care Operations, Public Health Outcomes Improvement, and Research & Evaluation
  • Affiliate clinical leadership including medical directors, lead clinicians, clinician trainers, Clinical Quality Improvement staff, and other licensed and non-licensed clinical staff
  • National medical experts from partner organizations in the sexual and reproductive health and related fields
  • Affiliate Risk Management Services
  • National Medical Committee (standing medical advisory committee to PPFA Medical Services comprised of national medical experts)
  • Clinical Advisory Committee (standing advisory committee to PPFA Medical Services comprised of affiliate clinicians and nurses)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education/Credentials: Clinical degree. Active licensure as a physician, registered nurse, advanced practice nurse, certified nurse-midwife, or physician assistant is required.
  • Experience: Five to seven years of recent, directly related, progressively responsible professional experience in a clinical environment including executing multifaceted projects. Experience in a Planned Parenthood affiliate is desirable.
  • Experience with clinical guideline development and dissemination.
  • Knowledge of the PPFA MS&Gs and core services provided by Planned Parenthood affiliates is strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management, organizational, problem solving, and planning skills.
  • Able to lead and work on multiple, complex projects. Must be able to focus on the details while appreciating the big picture.
  • Strong written communication skills. Experience writing medical protocols
  • and other professional documents.
  • Effective oral communication skills. Adept at presenting to large and small groups by both teleconference and in-person.
  • Understanding of systems of oppression that lead to poor health outcomes (including but not limited to structural racism, white supremacy, and heteropatriarchy) is required; experience working with communities of color preferred
  • Knowledge of communicating with diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce, and exhibiting sensitivity and appreciation of cultural differences is required.
  • Must have an understanding of and experience implementing and evaluating clinical services with a health equity lens.
  • Comfort learning new technologies. Excellent computer skills. Experience with google suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Pro. .
  • Excellent literature searchability.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to lead groups as well as be a team player.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Comfort working with telecommuters.
  • Ability to recognize the value of diversity and maintain relationships with staff and external audiences that respect individual dignity.

Travel

  • Approximately 10-20% including national conferences and meetings.
