Description

  • Newport Hospital and Health Services is located in Newport, WA on the Washington-Idaho border.  We are an independent rural healthcare provider.
  • Newport Hospital and Health Services consists of:
    • 24 bed Rural Community Hospital - Trauma Level IV
    • 15 providers Rural Health Clinic
    • 72 – bed, high –level care,  Advanced Assisted Living Facility
    • 42 – apartment;  low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility
    • In 2021 we celebrated our 100th year in operation servicing the local members of Newport, WA and the surrounding communities. 

Local/Regional Networks

NHHS has participated under three versions of Medicare ACO models.  We have joined with other rural hospitals under a collaborative, inter-local based model and have generated shared savings under every completed year of ACO participation. 

How we operate

As with most rural locations, NHHS cares for a significant population qualifying for Medicare/Medicaid coverage (approximately 65% of our services) and are committed to ensure residents have access to care in their homes community, both primary and specialty care.  NHHS strategic goals focus on maintaining autonomy over our local care delivery system and developing local/regional affiliations that make functional/business sense to NHHS.  We believe autonomy can be achieved by ensuring;

  1. Care delivery meets the Quadruple Aim
  2. We meet key performance targets centering
    • Quality outcome ( defined metrics)
    • Patient satisfaction (survey results)
    • Financial metrics (margins and cash reserves)

Job Summary

Manages and directs the organization to meet objectives.  In conjunction with the Governing Board, establish current/long range target objectives, oversees operating plans, budgets, and policies, provider recruitment, and service line planning/outcomes.  Authorized to direct, advises and guide in order to carry out service objectives and capital plans consistent with established NHHS statutes.  Oversees organizational fiscal structure and results; reviews operating measures to ensure tracking to established objectives; takes appropriate measures/steps to ensure course correction and achievement of target results.  Reports directly to the Board and will represent the organization with local/regional partners, WA Rural Collaborative/Hospital Associations, stakeholders, financial community, and the public.

 Education Background and Experience

Minimum Education

  • Masters in Hospital or Health Care Administration or related field.
Required Licensure / Certifications

  • CPA or Comprehensive Financial understanding.
Required Experience:

5 or more years of experience at a Senior Level of management within a Health Care organization. Proven record building relationships with board members, physicians, employees and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years as CEO in a Hospital or Health Care setting.

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.

Essential Job Functions

  • In conjunction with the Board, prepare plans to set/achieve District objectives; establish specific goals and continuous monitor/reviews to evaluate/ensure plan objectives are met.
  • Ensure the District maintains accreditation, appropriate licensure, and quality patient care through designed practice standards and performance improvement monitoring programs.
  • Oversee preparation of an annual operating/capital budget showing expected revenues and expenditures, cash flow, and financial results to the Board for review/approval.
  • Supervises District fiscal /business affairs to ensure the collection/expenditure of funds best meet the long range operating goals of the District.
  • Collaborates with the executive management team to develop and implement plans for the operation infrastructure of systems processes and personnel designed to accommodate the growth objectives of the company.
  • Develop plans for an effective organizational structure to conduct District operations and reporting to the Board; recommend changes and submit for Board review/approval, as needed.
  • Responsible for oversight of all District functions, structure, operations, and statutory compliance; present for review/approval to the Board (and/or its committees) all routine financial/operating/audit reports necessary to show the outcomes, services results, and status of District operations.
  • Act as liaison between the District and its medical staff; ensure the medical staff remains engaged and proactive to establish and meet District service line targets and outcomes.
