The Business Strategy Manager has overarching responsibility for managing and coordinating special projects, liaison to all business units and subsidiaries, coordination of Annual Enterprise Strategy, Line of Business and Functional Strategy refresh and support strategy facilitation.

The position requires a working knowledge of health plan business processes, operations, and strategy in addition to the flexibility, knowledge, and judgment to prioritize and manage multiple activities simultaneously, works productively with management and non-management to achieve desired results, communicates effectively in person and in writing, and partners in a collaborative manner to meet objectives.  The position will lead and manage cross-functional project teams and will individually execute entire projects, utilizing a broad set of skills, including problem solving, project management, facilitation, communication, effective strategizing throughout the organization.

Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Strategic Impact Analysis: proactively assesses strategic impacts and risk resulting from strategy changes using collaborative planning processes to identify current state gaps and estimated work effort to comply; including but not limited to facilitating meetings, analyzing data, and engaging stakeholders from other divisions.
  • Leads, supports, and participates in strategic and tactical project, program and business planning, requiring close communication and interaction with senior leaders.
  • Develops and maintains relationships across the enterprise to promote strategic compliance priorities and collaborates cross-functionally to optimize strategy preparedness.
  • Conducts independent research and provides summary reports and presentations to stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of deliverables.
  • Maintains an understanding of organization’s position related to various enterprise priorities and accurately reflects the organization’s position when required.
  • Fosters continuous improvement. Acts as a change leader and cultural ambassador, championing change and innovation.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations, analyses, and discussion documents.
  • Ensures internal and external stakeholders receive accurate, timely, and relevant updates.
  • Works closely with other Departments for input and integration.  Ensures all perspectives are considered and develops processes and timelines to incorporate planning and execution of strategies across departments.
  • Supports the development of the business, operational strategy; completing SWOT analysis, current state gap analysis and work effort estimation as needed.
  • Builds and maintains productive relationships with corporate and business unit executives, target company management teams, and Business Development engagements.
  • Assists with the enterprise strategic plan, monitoring and reporting on plan execution, and making modifications to the plan with support from executive management.
  • Represents the Strategy, Marketing & Communication team on committees and discussions and communicate updates to health plan leaders and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, marketing, business administration or related field. In lieu of degree, a minimum of six (6) years of health plan operations, project management, compliance or experience in a related field.
  • Six (6) years health plan, health insurance, project management or relevant experience required.
  • Strong leadership and/or management experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management preferred.
  • Strong persuasive and effective communication, presentation, people, and management skills. Ability to present clear and concise information to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically, craft a vision and develop robust operational action plans.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide proactive and creative solutions to business problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of business and workflow problems and determine innovative sources for solutions and opportunities.
  • Ability to make critical decisions impacting the department and division.
  • Must possess strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to establish collaborative, effective relationships with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership in order to execute cross-divisional initiatives.
  • Demonstrates understanding of federal and state regulations impacting the business areas within the division; familiar with divisional and Health Plan requirements relative to regulatory audits and enforcement actions; and understands the regulatory risks faced by their division.
